Snorkeling is a fantastic experience, allowing you to interact with the
amazing marine life found on the Great Barrier Reef. The pristine reefs
visited by Calypso are unspoilt, have minimal currents, great
visibility and are not over-exposed to a large number of tourists.
Our purpose built boat acts much like a pontoon on the reef, offering snorkelers and divers easy access on and off the boat.
The
depth of the reef around the snorkelling sites varies between 1–8m,
offering our Snorkelers a chance to discover the small creatures hiding
in between the coral, as well as swim with the schools of fish and the
larger marine life.
On board we have floatation devices
including foam noodles and life vests to make Snorkeling a safe and
relaxing experience for all ages. This also helps passengers with
little or no snorkeling experience to feel more comfortable.
Once
we arrive at the reef (only one hour travelling!), our Skipper will
give you a snorkel briefing, including great tips to enhance your
underwater experience.
The Calypso Crew know the incredible
feeling of Snorkeling on the Great Barrier Reef and want to share this
experience with you. We provide a friendly, personalised service,
making sure all guests feel confident and safe. For those not quite so
confidant - or if you want to view the Great Barrier Reef without
getting wet - we can run Bathescope tours using our smaller boat on
board so that you can see the Great Barrier Reef through your very own
looking glass!
The dive locations we go to have been surveyed to show that they are
made up of 80% hard coral cover compared to 40% in similar areas on the
Great Barrier Reef. Each dive is different our resident marine life are
the Napoleon Maori Wrasse, White Tip Reef Sharks, Hawksbill Turtle,
Green Turtles, Blue Spotted Sting Rays, Sweet Lips, Star Fish, Anemone
Fish (Home of Nemo!) Nudi Branches, Angel Fish, Huge Gropers, Giant
Puffer Fish and loads more!
The reef area is extensive; even if you spent all of your time snorkelling on the reef you will not cover the entire area.
Visibility
ranges from 10m - 25m and there is always a lot to see. Divers have
enough time to do 2 dives on the reef as well as snorkel, have lunch
and a sun bake in between.
All of our crew are educated in the
importance of reef conservation and we pass this onto our passengers to
guarantee it is left the way that we found it... immaculate!
